The modern food supply fails significantly to provide all that is necessary to produce robust, healthy people. We no longer live within a system that teaches children what foods will provide superior nutrition. The level of nutrition in our society has dropped significantly in recent years, compared with diets of our ancestors.
The food Americans eat today is devitalized, meaning poor quality foods that have been stripped of nutrients. Modern technology and a fast-paced world have enabled us to increasingly eat on the run, eat too much, and eat unhealthy foods laden with sugar and artifical chemical preservatives. At the same time Americans don't exercise as much anymore. Because of all of this, the percentage of people who develop serious health problems and disease increases annually.
It is well known that a healthy diet improves long-term health. You might think that to reverse this trend toward bad nutrition and increasing health problems all that is needed is to make better food choices. But is that enough or even realistic? Diet alone is not enough for a number of reasons:
- Hectic lifestyles
- Social eating habits
- Strenuous athletic activities
- Daily stress
- Environmental stress
- Alcohol consumption
- Nutrient depletions from certain medications
The foods we eat are not providing our bodies with the nutrition necessary to thrive and be healthy. We are starving our bodies and this is causing serious health problems. We suffer from diabetes, obesity, heart attacks, increasing rates of inflammatory conditions and the list goes on and on. We are simply overfed and undernourished.
The good news is that given proper nutrition, the human body has an amazing ability of keeping itself healthy. If properly fed and given the right nutritional supplements, the body is designed to repair and heal itself. To do so we need to eat a healthier diet, exercise, and take high quality nutritional supplements.
*A word of advice: Not all nutritional supplements are the same. Many supplements available in today's marketplace range in quality. Companies are riding the wave of supplement popularity rather than focusing on commitment and quality. If you are currently using nutritional supplements for health concerns but do not feel any better there may be two reasons. Either the supplements are poor quality and the body cannot utilize them or you are taking something your body does not need.
